Palliative care began with a hospice tradition that dates back to the medieval period. The modern hospice care movement began in the 1960s, and modern palliative care developed during the following decade. Palliative care, with an emphasis on integration with curative or life-prolonging treatments, continues to evolve, with both death and survivorship as possible outcomes¹¹⁵.
