The Venn diagram shows candidate essential genes identified in ATCC 17978 by mariner transposition (471 genes called essential or uncertain [blue circle]) or by the Tn10-ATS system (476 genes called essential [gray circle]). The intersection of the genes sets had 372 genes, representing the candidate essential gene set using both systems.
