Magnetic susceptibility difference (Δχ) between the human monocyte subsets and the surrounding fluid (PBS). Whereas all the cell types report negative magnetic susceptibilities (χ_cell <0), Δχ (χ_cell − χ_fluid) is positive for some of the intermediate and non-classical subsets. This implies that these cells will experience positive magnetophoresis when suspended in PBS and in the presence of a magnetic field and a magnetic field gradient. The percentage of cells with susceptibilities higher than that of the fluid is also reported.
