Images were acquired using a 20X water–immersion objective. Both surface species, E. sosorum (B & E) and E. nana (C & F) show labeling of opsin (A–C) and rhodopsin (D–F) in the photoreceptor layer of the retina (white arrows). No labeling is observed in the subterranean species E. rathbuni (A&D).
