The CD4:CD8 T-cell ratio is decreased in the cytomegalovirus (CMV)-positive population. A, Lymphocyte counts were determined as a standard practice of care through the McGill University Health Centre. B, The CD4:CD8 T-cell ratio was determined for each individual using flow cytometry, gating on the CD3+ population. The CMV-positive (n = 65) and CMV-negative (n = 22) populations were compared using multivariable linear regression models including age, sex, smoking status, and body mass index as covariables. A Bonferroni correction was applied and P values below .025 were considered significant. Each box represents the mean, the bars represent standard error and the dots represents each individual analyzed.
