There was no association between IEL count in the terminal ileum (TI) and Chao richness of (a) the mucosal microbiota (P = 0.717) and (b) the fecal microbiota (FM) (P = 0.503). There was no association between IEL count in TI with (c) Shannon diversity of the mucosal microbiota (P = 0.953). (d) The association between reduced Shannon diversity of the FM and high IEL count in the TI did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.067).
