Shot controls microtubule orientation in the ring canal, via regulating the interaction between EBI/microtubule plus-ends and asymmetric actin fibers on the nurse cell side. Therefore, Shot is essential for directing dynein-dependent transport of various cargoes (including Golgi units, osk/Staufen RNPs, mitochondria, and lipid droplets) from the nurse cells to the oocyte.
