(A) A Jones matrix hologram implements a polarization-dependent mask (J(x, y)) with a far-field, plane wave spectrum polarization response (A(k_x, k_y)) whose behavior can be controlled. The far-field response to an incident polarization state with Jones vector ∣j〉_in can be found by matrix multiplication. (B) These can be implemented with metasurfaces composed of dielectric pillars, whose Jones matrices, as discussed in the text, are subject to certain mathematical constraints.
