(A) A Jones matrix hologram implements a polarization-dependent mask (J(x, y)) with a far-field, plane wave spectrum polarization response (A(kx, ky)) whose behavior can be controlled. The far-field response to an incident polarization state with Jones vector ∣jin can be found by matrix multiplication. (B) These can be implemented with metasurfaces composed of dielectric pillars, whose Jones matrices, as discussed in the text, are subject to certain mathematical constraints. An example SEM (scanning electron micrograph) of a small section of a sample from this work is shown. Scale bar, 500 nm.
