Patients at high risk for severe COVID-19 illness were eligible for the high-intensity care model if they had one or more of the following: age >65 years, diabetes, current smoker, BMI >40, chronic liver disease, chronic lung disease, congestive heart failure, active cancer therapy, bone marrow or solid organ transplant, other immunocompromised state, end-stage renal disease. Additionally, patients were eligible if they were hospitalized for COVID-19 without one of these risk factors, but experienced one of the following: hospital length of stay ≥7 days, ICU admission, cardiac complications, need for mechanical ventilation or dialysis, need for oxygen supplementation at discharge, and receipt of remdesivir upon discharge.
