The serum levels of 24S-HC increased at 6 h and 24 h after HI. (a) Serum was collected immediately after HI (0 h) and repeatedly at multiple time points over six days. The 24S-HC levels were significantly higher in the HI animals than those in the sham at 6 h and 24 h (1d) (n = 7 for sham, n = 17 for HI, *p < 0.001 vs. the sham values at the same time point). (b) The results were confirmed in mice where serum was collected at 6 h and 24 h (1d) only (i.e., all three sets of animals in Figure 1, n = 21 for sham, n = 42 for HI, *p < 0.001 vs. the sham values at the same time points). 24S-HC: 24S-hydroxycholesterol; HI: hypoxia-ischemia.
