For adjusted analysis, covariates included demographic characteristics such as age, sex, race/ethnicity, annual household income, metropolitan/non-metropolitan residency, and census region; self-reported participant history of comorbidities including hypertension, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, congestive heart failure, other heart conditions (valve/rhythm), stroke/brain hemorrhage, high cholesterol, Alzheimer’s/dementia, osteoporosis, hip fracture, any autoimmune condition, diabetes mellitus, or lung disease; and health behaviors (tobacco use). All comorbidity covariates were measured as dichotomous responses
