Path C represents a total effect of rs10994336 genotype on PE, path A represents the effect of rs10994336 genotype on cg02172182 methylation, path B represents the effect of cg02172182 methylation on PE, and path C' represents the direct effect of rs10994336 polymorphism on PE after taking into account cg02172128 methylation as a mediator. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001. Path AB is the mediation (indirect) effect and is significant at P < 0.05 based on confidence intervals from bias-corrected bootstrapping of 5,000 samples.
