Medications for nausea &
vomiting
• Ondansetron prior to infusion/in PACU/Recovery
• IV dexamethasone at the start of treatment in situations where patient previously had severe nausea from a ketamine infusion
• Scopolamine patch (placed behind the ears) if the other options fail
Medication for headaches • PO or IV acetaminophen
• IV or PO ketorolac 30 mg
Other potential side effects
that may arise & may
require clinician intervention
• Significant tachycardia (Consider slowing infusion)
• Significant hypertension (consider beta blockers or slow infusion)
• Increased salivation
• Agitation, hallucinations, nightmares
