The patient flow of the trial: all 307 consecutive adult recipients of a kidney allograft transplanted at the Medical University of Vienna between December 1, 2016, and December 31, 2018 were screened. One hundred two patients had a protocol biopsy of the kidney graft scheduled 1 y after transplantation. Twenty patients were excluded because of the timing of the protocol biopsy, an unstable graft function, presumptive polyoma virus nephropathy, and active participation in an interventional trial respectively.
