P. aeruginosa was cultured in the Cooper’s medium containing both ferrous sulfate and manganese sulfate (left), without ferrous sulfate (center) and without manganese sulfate (right). Both turbidity in the culture solution and foam, which were derived by the growth and metabolism of P. aeruginosa were observed in only culture solution containing ferrous sulfate, suggesting ferrous ion is a trace element which governs the growth of the P. aeruginosa.
