Two had Lewy bodies in the temporal isocortex; both of these were NIA-Reagan high likelihood, Braak VI. Three had frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) with other pathology. The line drawn separates the AD subjects from the control subjects in Fig. 4. The exclusion of these subjects did not affect the overall interpretation of the data. It is noteworthy that the two most extreme cases (LB isocortex on control side of line and FTLD-C) both had pathologic structures in temporal cortex, which adds a confounding factor to the optical signal.
