The miRNA response elements (MREs)-mediate crosstalk between coding and non-coding transcripts. Different classes of ncRNAs such as lncRNAs and circRNAs with MREs act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs). Their interaction with miRNAs regulates the expression of target mRNAs.
