Ligands of PPARγ cover a spectrum of transcriptional effects. In the absence of a ligand, PPARγ has a basal level of expression of the genes it controls, and ligands can affect the transcriptional output. This is mediated by the recruitment of transcriptionally promoting coactivators or transcriptionally-suppressing corepressors to PPARγ.
