Methylation dynamics during mouse embryonic preimplantation development. After fertilization, the male genome (blue) undergoes fast demethylation, whereas the female genome (pink) undergoes a slow passive DNA demethylation. De novo methylation occurs at the blastocyst stage, with a differential methylation pattern between the ICM and the TE.
