Connections of EWcp with the circuit involved in stress-induced hyperglycemia. Glutamatergic inputs from PVN excite RVLM C1 neurons, inducing glucose mobilization via projections to the spinal cord that activate the adrenal gland (adrenalectomy completely blocks hyperglycemia). EWcp, which is activated by stress, is part of the central circuit that controls the sympathetic outflow to the adrenal gland.
