Proposed mechanism of action of ASFV CD2v. CD2v present on infected cell membranes and/or released from ASFV-infected macrophages interacts with surrounding lymphocytes and macrophages via CD58. This interaction promotes NF-κB activation and induction of IFN-β and ISGs, which lead to the apoptosis of lymphocytes and macrophages.
