The top panels of both figures show the chromosomal coordinates, genome annotation, RNA-seq, H3K9me2 ChIP-seq, and 5mC for wild-type. CENP-A ChIP-seq is shown in black and the final panel shows CENP-C ChIP-seq. (A) Centromeric drift in CEN5 is correlated with the presence of a large, but truncated Tcn3 element. This truncated Tcn3 element functions as a barrier and for all isolates with the exception of cen10Δ-G, CENP-A is present on only one side of the truncated Tcn3 element. (B) Centromere drift occurs in CEN14 and the CENP-A peaks drift within the ORF-free region of CEN14 and lack a defining feature.
