Reduction of genome-scale metabolic networks. Genome-scale metabolic models of twelve organisms from all kingdoms of life are used in the reduction (a) with arbitrary kinetics and (b) assuming mass action kinetics. The analysis also includes two large, mass-action kinetic models of E. coli. Shown is the percentage of reduction in the number of species with respect to the original model.
