(A) A tumor releases both mutant DNA and nonmutant DNA fragments into the circulation. The nonmutant fragments are more abundant than the mutant fragments. The tumor microenvironment and other somatic cells in the body release nonmutant DNA, which is of greater abundance than the tumor-derived fraction.
