FIGURE 2

Neuroprotective activity of NSP01 H. serrata extracts. Neurite network and cell survival were measured in primary rat cortical neurons by immunohistochemistry (MAP-2 antibody). (A,B), immunohistochemical quantification of MAP-2 in neurons injured with glutamate (40 μM, 20 min) and pre-treated with several doses of NSP01 extract for 48 h. (C), representative MAP-2 staining (green) of primary rat cortical neurons injured with 40 µM of glutamate. 500 ng/ml of NSP01, containing the equivalent of 2,9 nM HA, 0,7 nM of CA and 1,7 nM of FA, represents the first effective dose leading to neuroprotection. (D–F), immunohistochemical quantification and pictures of MAP-2 in neurons injured with Aβ1-42 oligomers (20 μM, 24 h) and pre-incubated with several doses of NSP01 extract (1 h). The best effect was obtained after treatment with 500 ng/ml of extract. All values are expressed as mean ± SEM (standard error of the mean). *p < 0.05 vs. control.
