Propionate and butyrate promoted IgE‐mediated degranulation. Enriched basophils were stimulated with sodium acetate (5 mM or indicated concentrations), sodium propionate (5 mM or indicated concentrations) or sodium butyrate (0·5 mM or indicated concentrations) for 2 hours (a) followed by mouse anti‐human IgE (10 μg/mL) stimulation for 30 minutes (b, c). For blocking assay, enriched basophils were pre‐treated with ±/‐β‐Hydroxybutyrate (HB, 1 mM) or α‐cyano‐4‐hydroxycinnamic acid (CHC, 1 mM) for 30 minutes prior to SCFA treatment.
