There were no differences in ages, body weights and resting ventilatory parameters between male WT and eNOS–/– mice and between female WT and eNOS–/– mice (*P < 0.05, body weights, male WT versus female WT mice; and ‡P < 0.05, body weights, male eNOS–/– versus female eNOS–/– mice).
