Metabolism in M1 and M2 macrophages. M1 macrophages display an enhanced glycolysis, PPP, FA synthesis, a decreased OXPHOS, and TCA cycle. Activation of glycolysis which results in increased production of lactate, increased FA uptake and synthesis, and increased uptake of glutamine to fuel the TCA cycle.
