All brain tissue was obtained from the Neurobiobank Munich, Department of Neuropathology, Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich. A total number of 20 cases were selected and staged by a trained neuropathologist (T.A.) in regard to the presence of LBs in the medulla oblongata, the tegmentum at level of locus coeruleus, the substantia nigra (SN), and the amygdala and the neocortex (Co). The table depicts the Braak stage, the age and sex of the respective brain tissue.

PD Parkinson’s disease, D dementia, Dep depression, RLS restless legs syndrome, – no neurological or psychiatric symptoms.
