Ghrelin is neuroprotective against 6-OHDA neurotoxicity.

(A) Phase contrast images of SH-SY5Y cells treated with different concentrations of ghrelin (0.1, 1, 10, 100, 200, and 400 nM) for 30 minutes followed by 6-OHDA treatment for 24 hours. Images revealed a notable decrease of adherent cells and more round cells that had lost processes after 6-OHDA treatment. These changes were partially reversed by 1 nM, 10 nM, and 100 nM ghrelin treatment; Scale bar: 50 μm. (B) Cell viability was assessed using Cell Counting Kit-8.
