Notes: The average number of cartridges used presented here does not reflect any guidelines and are based on personal communication with two practicing surgeons as detailed in acknowledgements. It is understood that surgical practice differs from place to place, surgeon to surgeon, and patient to patient. For surgeries which require multiple cartridge lengths, with the SUS it will be assumed that the 45 mm cartridge can be used with the 60 mm power handle and adapter but cannot be used with the 35 mm power handle and adapter. As such, it is assumed that two SUS power handles and adapters are required by the surgeon for each of these procedures. Separate devices are not required when using the MUS to accommodate the different cartridge length requirements.
Abbreviations: mm, millimeter; VATS, video-assisted thoracoscopic.
