*Rates are given per 100,000 population and age-adjusted. Rates were calculated regionally using reported ARI hospitalizations multiplied by the percentage of patients meeting the SARI criteria upon medical chart review. Regional hospitalization counts were multiplied by the national percentage of specimens testing influenza-positive from SARI sentinel surveillance, adjusted by age and month, and then divided by the combined population of the regions.
