Per axis cumulative angular velocity distributions in a head-bound vs. a gravity-aligned reference frame before and after arsanilate injection into the left inner ear (example from one rat). In basal conditions, the distribution of pitch rotations (green curve) reaches larger values than roll and yaw rotations (top left panel). The arsanilate lesion induces a change in head kinematics, with a shift of yaw rotations in the counter-clockwise direction (a shift of the blue curve toward the bottom) which is most apparent when angular velocity values are expressed in a gravity-centered reference frame (with a z axis aligned with gravity and an x axis aligned with the animal’s nose by convention) as seen in the bottom right panel.
