A three-step screening approach was applied, were the 7 substances, at a range of concentrations, were first screened for effects on longevity. All substances and concentrations were assessed for any deviation in consumption, and only substances that did not affect food consumption were included in further analysis. These substances were then screened by ELISA for global methylation changes. The most promising candidate was selected for WGBS and in-depth analyses of how DNA methylation may be affected by substance exposure.
