Mn enters S. suis cells via the TroABCD system. Under Mn excess conditions (B), the expression of the TroABCD system is repressed by TroR, and Mn import is prevented. Moreover, the Mn efflux system MntE is activated; intracellular Mn can be exported outside the cells by MntE.
