Diagnostic criteria for migraine headache without aura and vestibular migraine as defined by the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition (ICHD).

Migraine headache without aura
  1. At least five attacks fulfilling criteria B-D

  2. Headache attacks lasting 4–72 hours (untreated or unsuccessfully treated)

  3. Headache has at least two of the following four characteristics:
    1. unilateral location
    2. pulsating quality
    3. moderate or severe pain intensity
    4. aggravation by or causing avoidance of routine physical activity (e.g., walking or climbing stairs)
  4. During headache at least one of the following:
    1. nausea and/or vomiting
    2. photophobia and phonophobia
  5. Not better accounted for by another ICHD-3 diagnosis.

Vestibular migraine
All five criteria (A-E) must be fulfilled to make the diagnosis:
  1. At least five episodes fulfilling criteria C and D

  2. A current or past history of migraine without aura or migraine with aura

  3. Vestibular symptoms of moderate or severe intensity, lasting between 5 minutes and 72 hours.

  4. At least half of episodes are associated with at least one of the following three migrainous features:
    1. headache with at least two of the following four characteristics:
      1. unilateral location
      2. pulsating quality
      3. moderate or severe intensity
      4. aggravation by routine physical activity
    2. photophobia and phonophobia
    3. visual aura
  5. Not better accounted for by another ICHD-3 diagnosis or by another vestibular disorder.
