(b) The surface view shows the cavity formed between the N-terminal domain (left) and the C-terminal domain (right). (c) The elongated cavity is composed of aromatic residues localized towards the N-terminal domain and polar residues towards the C-terminal domain. The aromatic residues are positioned to stabilize the hydrophobic polyene substrate. The side chains lining the cavity are shown as sticks in cartoon representation, with C atoms shown in sky blue, N atoms in dark blue and O atoms in red.
