The posterior third of the alloscutum was recovered and demonstrates a prominent marginal groove (black arrow), which is present on ticks that have not fed or have fed <24 hours. The posterior margin of the scutum (shield) is also seen (red arrow). In addition, defined gut diverticulae (dark branches under the tegument) are present; these diverticulae swell with an increasing amount of blood).
