The tumor microenvironment (TME) contributes to metabolic tumor heterogeneity. In addition to CAFs ( Figure 2 ), the local TME, including immune cells and adipocytes, provide nutrients for tumor metabolism. The relative importance of the different TME cellular subtypes varies between patients thereby contributing to additional levels of tumor heterogeneity.
