Summary: TGFβ signaling plays a stage-dependent role during mandible bone growth based on the loss of Tgfβr2 in Gli1+ osteogenic progenitors and 3.2 kb Col1+ osteoblasts in the R26RtdTomato tracing background, respectively. Removing Tgfβr2 in the Gli1+ progenitor cells at early postnatal stage led to a significant bone loss and a decrease in OSX. Deletion of Tgfβr2 in the 3.2 kb Col1+ osteoblasts at early postnatal stage result in mild changes in alveolar bone morphologies and bone volume.
