IFNλ1 secretion by uterine epithelial cells and uterine fibroblasts in response to poly (I:C) is independent of estradiol (E₂) and progesterone (P). Primary human uterine epithelial cells (A, C) or uterine fibroblasts (B, D) were pretreated with E₂ (5x10^-8M) (A, B) or P (1x10^-7M) (C, D) for 48 hrs after which media was replenished in the presence or absence of poly (I:C) (25 μg/ml) for a further 24 hrs. During this period E₂ or P was maintained in the culture media. IFNλ1 secretion was determined by ELISA. Data is shown as mean +/- SEM. n = 3 (A, B). n = 6 (C, D).
