Mitochondrial dynamic. Mitochondria continuously change their size and shape by two opposing processes: mitochondrial fission and fusion. During the mitochondrial fission, mitochondria become fragmented in response to cell stress whereas they form an elongated shape increasing ATP production to adjust to cellular stresses.
