Thymoproteasome in the positive selection of MHC-I-specific T cells. A unique catalytic subunit, β5t, which, together with β1i and β2i, is part of the 20S proteasome instead of β5 or β5i, forms a thymoproteasome (in orange) with reduced chymotrypsin-like activity. This type of proteasome plays an important role in the positive selection of MHC-I-specific T cells, as a result of which the final repertoire of cytotoxic lymphocytes is significantly expanded.
