Deformation (strain) in the brain of a human volunteer, measured with tagged MRI during its response to impulsive angular acceleration of the head. All components of the strain tensor (εij) are captured throughout the entire brain and across time. These strain fields can be used to calculate summary strain metrics, such as maximum principal strain (MPS).
