Figure 3

Odorant responses of GA-sensitive neurons are unaffected in Cyp4p11 and Cyp6a81 mutants. (a) Responses to odors that activate the ab5A neuron, geranyl acetate (0.1%) and citral (0.1%), are similar in Cyp4p11 and Cyp6a81 mutants as in controls. Bar graphs depict the mean ± SEM overlaid with the individual data points. Data analyzed with two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post-hoc tests (n = 8–17 sensilla each, p > 0.05 for all comparisons). (b) Dose–response curve of spiking responses to geranyl acetate. Dose response curves show the mean ± SEM and the curve fit to the Hill equation. The EC50s were not significantly different between the three genotypes (control 0.029% ± 0.008, Cyp4p11 0.034% ± 0.013%, Cyp6a81 0.031% ± 0.010%, one-way ANOVA, n = 8–15 sensilla each). (c) Peristimulus time histograms (PSTHs, mean ± SEM) show spiking responses to a 500 ms pulse of geranyl acetate (0.01%). Each trace (colored line) represents the mean of 8–15 recordings taken from the data for the dose–response curve in (b).
