OXT-dependent neurodevelopment implements adult sociality. Early developmental ablation of OXT neurons reduces social affiliation. Ablated oxytocinergic neurons recover, but their developmental perturbation leads to irreversible reduction in dopaminergic cell number and blunts neuronal response to social stimulus in adulthood.
