Kaplan-Meier survival curves of 115 bulbar onset ALS patients according to the phenotype. When 20 months was used as the cutoff duration, 19 patients were identified as having IBP, and 96 patients were identified as having typical bulbar onset ALS. Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test showed that the median survival time of the IBP patients was significantly longer than that of the typical bulbar onset ALS patients (P < 0.001). ALS = amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; IBP = isolated bulbar palsy
