Table 2.

Elemental compositions and Gibbs energies of growth of viruses. The elemental composition refers to empirical formulas of the form CHnHOnONnNPnPSnS. The elemental compositions of the viruses were calculated as described in Section 2.2, starting from data in the “Composition reference” column. The viruses marked with an asterisk are enveloped viruses. For enveloped viruses, lipids were not included in the calculations, since they are taken from the host cell during budding and not synthesized at the ribosomes [10].
