Microscopic aspects of microinvasive cervical cancer. MCC-A: non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium with severe dysplastic lesions in all the tissue layers and the existence of a microinvasion island beyond the epithelial basement membrane is observed. The neoplastic cells invade the stroma, in one or more sites, to a depth of ≤3 mm below the base of the epithelium, without lymphatic or blood vessel involvement. Classical stained hematoxylin-eosin × 100; MCC-B: the existence of an island of microinvasion immunolabeled with the anti-Ki67 antibody can be observed, which has crossed the epithelial basement membrane.
