Growth of B. pertussis in the presence of toxic concentrations of manganese. (A) B. pertussis wt and ΔBP3410 cells were grown in SS medium to late exponential phase, and then 100 μl of cell suspension (OD₆₀₀ of suspension was set to 2) was plated on BG agar. Sensitivity to Mn was tested with a disc diffusion assay in which 10 μl of 100 mM MnCl₂ was pipetted onto the disc. (B) B. pertussis wt and ΔBP3410 cells were grown in SS medium to an OD₆₀₀ of ≈2.0, and then 100 μl of each culture was plated on BG agar supplemented with 1 mM MnCl₂.
